Tones And I, is a singer-songwriter from the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia. Her passion for music was sparked at a young age during a family outing when her aunt recognized her ability to sing in tune. This moment inspired her to delve deeper into music, and throughout secondary school, she taught herself to play instruments like the keyboard and drum pads.

Tones And I launched a YouTube channel where she shared a cappella covers of popular songs. Over the years, she played local gigs and festivals, including the Let Go Festival, gradually building her presence in the music scene. By 2014, she was the vocalist in a duo, performing in small pubs and bars around Mornington. Reflecting on that time, she recalled, “I was singing along to a guitarist until I ended up branching out on my own.” Her transition to a solo career came after being made redundant from her retail job—she used her severance pay to buy an RC300 loop station and began experimenting with her sound. Traveling up and down Australia’s east coast with her synthesizers and loop pedal, she busked regularly, steadily growing a loyal fanbase with her eclectic, genre-blending performances.

Her musical journey took a more serious turn when she began busking in the streets of Melbourne and Byron Bay. Juggling her performances with a part-time job in fashion retail, she faced a number of challenges while honing her craft. A major breakthrough came in 2018 when she won the Battle of the Buskers at the Buskers by the Creek festival in Byron Bay—an achievement that elevated her profile and marked the beginning of her rise in the music industry.

The release of Tones And I's second single, "Dance Monkey," in May 2019 was a defining moment in her career. Written in just 30 minutes, the track quickly became a worldwide phenomenon, topping the charts in over 30 countries, including Australia, the UK, and Germany. It shattered numerous records, including the longest run at number one on the ARIA Singles Chart and becoming the most Shazamed song of all time. By early 2020, "Dance Monkey" had amassed over 10 billion streams across all platforms and held the top spot on the Australian charts for an unprecedented 24 weeks.

Recently, Tones And I released her single “Halleluhah” on May 2, 2025 where she re-imagines her own version of the classic Leonard Cohen track Hallelujah. This beautiful track is out now everywhere.
