Artist Spotlight: TEHYA
TEHYA is a singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist who has rapidly made a name for herself in the alternative pop scene. Originally from Seattle, TEHYA left home when she was 16 years old to live in an artist compound in the city’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. Although she spent this time teaching herself instruments and learning about production, she never officially released any of her work.
Her music felt sacred and vulnerable, and putting it out into the world always seemed too daunting. Now 23, TEHYA released her debut single, “crowd pleaser,” in March. The song explores being in a relationship with someone who cares more about public perception than their actual relationship with their partner. Once the concept of the song came to her, it was completed within a day.
Recently, TEHYA’s talent was recognized when she won a spot on the Bose X NME: C24 Mixtape through Bandlab’s initiative. As a self-taught independent artist who began her journey on Bandlab, this achievement is particularly meaningful. Her song “peach pit” now stands alongside songs from renowned artists like Teddy Swims, Artemas, and Laufey. TEHYA has also announced that she will be releasing her first EP soon.
