Artist Spotlight: Ravenna Golden
Ravenna Golden has always been a creative person. She attended art school before venturing into music, which came naturally to her and has been her creative outlet since she was 18. Growing up, she listened to bands like Blink 182 and MGMT, whose influence is evident in her music.
When Ravenna moved from her hometown of St. Louis to LA to pursue music, she struggled with comparison and developing as an artist on a budget. However, the move brought her closer to people in the industry, including friend and collaborator, Dylan Brady, of 100 gecs. After sharing some of her songs with Brady, he insisted she release a full album.
In 2015, Ravenna released her debut album, “Girl Gone Wild,” an 11-track journey exploring relationships and mental health. During this time, Ravenna, Dylan Brady, and a few other friends started the music group Cake Pop, becoming pioneers of hyper-pop and creating music unlike anything else.
More recently, Ravenna has been releasing music as a solo artist, continuing to blend different genres to craft her unique sound. Her music is eclectic; merging pop-punk and electronic elements that make you want to turn up the volume. She doesn’t overthink her music; she writes authentically and from her heart. She also doesn't analyze every lyric and wants her fans to draw their own conclusions from her music.
One of the reasons Ravenna excels in the hyper-pop genre is due to its imaginative nature. While she acknowledges that the music doesn’t resonate with everyone, she believes in inspiring people to express themselves freely.
