MICHELLE is a collective from New York City that blends pop, R&B, and indie rock. The band members Sofia D'Angelo, lead Charlie Kilgore, Julian Kaufman, Layla Ku, and Emma Lee come together to create a sonic soundscape that oozes with vitality. The band was formed in 2018 when producers Julian Kaufman and Charlie Kilgore came together to create an album dedicated to New York City. When the band arrived on the scene, they were like a refreshing breeze that was much needed, and they were able to find their own rhythm to sustain the group.
The band's music is characterized by complex vocal harmonies, vintage synthesizers, dynamic percussion, and irresistible hooks. These elements are prominent throughout their releases like “MESS U MADE,” “SUNRISE” and “SYNCOPATE”. As the four female vocalists push the limits of their impressive vocal performances, Charlie and Julian's collaborative production approach is marked by bold creativity and adventurous exploration. With influences ranging from classic pop and R&B to indie rock, a hallmark of their music is its warm atmosphere, and jazz. MICHELLE's debut album, "Heatwave," was released in 2020 and received critical acclaim for its innovative sound which could only be created by the unique approach of each artist in the collective coming together.
