Artist Spotlight: McCall

Artist Spotlight

McCall is an Atlanta-born singer/songwriter crafting who makes, as she likes to call it, “sad bops with spice.” Mccall always loved being in the spotlight, and in 4th grade she was already playing guitar and writing songs. She dropped out of high school, earned her GED, eventually got into USC, and has been living in LA ever since. Mccall’s music is intimate; when listening, it feels like she’s talking to a friend.

Similar to artists like Maggie Rogers and Japanese Breakfast, McCall infuses pop influences, vulnerability and a collection of “sad bops” into her unique style. McCall’s songwriting is one of the most impressive aspects of her music. With relatable themes of unsuccessful relationships and self depreciation, her music feels like a comforting embrace.

One of her most popular EPs, “On Self Loathing,” is made up of five songs that are so deeply honest, it feels like McCall’s confessional. McCall acknowledges the discomfort in writing songs about feelings that are rarely ever shared with others, but she also understands the importance of putting these emotions into words. While McCall’s music can be upbeat and dance-worthy, certain songs feel like the free therapy session you needed. McCall’s latest single is “Windmill,” which you can stream here: https://too.fm/jkwmmoy
