The creative force behind Awful Records, better known by the moniker "Father," made a name for himself in the music industry with his innovative record label and talented collective based out of Atlanta, Georgia. His chemistry background may have brought him to Georgia State University, but it was his passion for music that brought him together with the like-minded individuals who would eventually make up the Awful crew. Assembling in 2011, the group quickly began collaborating and laying down tracks, though it wasn't until 2013 that Father started sharing his music on SoundCloud. It was the infectious hit "Look at Wrist," featuring iLoveMakonnen and Key!, that catapulted him into the spotlight in 2014, followed shortly thereafter by his mixtape "Young Hot Ebony."

In an unexpected move, Father dropped his first full-length studio album, "Who's Gonna Get Fucked First?" in 2015. The album's style, which Pitchfork lauded as "aggressively minimal," showcased Father's penchant for experimenting with rhythm and timing to create a unique sonic landscape. The following year saw the release of "I'm A Piece of Shit," an album that Pitchfork described as a departure from Father's previously debaucherous lifestyle and an attempt to turn over a new leaf. After wrapping up his "I'm A Piece of Shit" tour in late 2016, Father initially began working on a new album titled "Mad as Hell," but ultimately decided to shelve the project due to a lack of inspiration. He eventually made the move from Atlanta to Los Angeles, where he found fresh creative energy and began recording new material.

In 2018, Awful Records made a big announcement that shook the music industry: they had entered into a partnership with RCA Records, which would enable them to sign artists to a joint contract under the Awful/RCA umbrella.  However, the partnership was short-lived, as Father decided to return to his Independent roots following the release of his EP, Hu$band

In an interview with Earmilk on the departure from RCA records, he stated,

"The thing that I started, you know what I started. I never truly intended to become a major label, I just wanted to go with the flow. It started off initially as a collective of artists working together which is what I always wanted it to be, which is what it’s returned to now... I don’t want to own people's careers."

Father is a captivating rapper who has carved out a unique niche in the crowded hip-hop scene. His sound is characterized by a fusion of hip-hop with punk rock and electronic music, resulting in a distinct and experimental style that sets him apart from his peers. What's more, Father's introspective lyrics delve into themes of personal struggles, mental health, and societal issues, showcasing a depth and authenticity that resonates with audiences.

Notably, Father's laid-back and nonchalant delivery serves to heighten the impact of his verses, creating a sense of disarming vulnerability that draws listeners in. His signature style is both refreshing and challenging, pushing the boundaries of what's expected in contemporary rap music. All in all, Father is an artist to watch, and his innovative approach to the genre ensures he will continue to captivate audiences for years to come.
