Artist Spotlight: Cam Steady
Cam Steady is a 25-year-old rapper and the creator of VideoGameRapBattles. Cam describes VideoGameRapBattles as “A series that pits two popular gaming characters against each other in an epic rap battle. These rapping battles span from Classic Nintendo to Modern Triple-A, to Indie Horror,”. Cam has found a way to make quality music while incorporating aspects of the video game community as a whole.
The first release that can be found on Cam Steady’s YouTube channel is “Ash Ketchum vs. Super Mario - Video Game Rap Battle”. The video was released on September 9th, 2012, and was a huge success. Currently, the video has over 400,000 views.
Seeing that there was an audience for the content Cam was creating, he continued on the path of making these VideoGameRapBattle videos. A month after the release of Cam’s first video, he released “Slender Man vs. Herobrine - Video Game Rap Battle”. This is where Cam’s career reached new heights. The video blew up and now has almost 5 million views.
Aside from making rap battles, Cam created a new series of cyphers and video game character based raps. These videos were also well received by fans and he continues to put out content for them to enjoy. With a YouTube Channel having over 600,000 subscribers and a Spotify artist page with over 150,000 monthly listeners, Cam has proved himself as a pioneer in the video game music scene.
