As a child in Vancouver, Alex Porat had dreams of becoming a pop star and was determined to do whatever it took to make it happen. She spent her formative years auditioning for kids' talent shows and belting out Whitney Houston and Christina Aguilera hits every Saturday at the local mall's food court, where a small stage and microphone were set up for spontaneous karaoke performances. In high school, Porat turned to YouTube, where she began sharing cover songs to grow her audience. Porat reflects on her early days, saying, “When you’re young, you don’t really know how to get your voice heard,” says Porat. “YouTube was a way for people to hear my voice.”

Alex Porat's big break didn't come until she was in university. Her emotional YouTube cover of Shawn Mendes' "In My Blood" caught the attention of the singer himself, who praised her in a Glamour magazine video. Mendes expressed his admiration for Porat, saying, “In My Blood.” “Alexandra,” Mendes says in the video, “you are incredible, your voice is awesome, and you sang it perfectly.”

Alex Porat released her debut EP, "bad at breakups," in 2020, which she recorded amidst the pandemic. The EP is a compilation of infectious alt-pop tracks that delve into themes of heartbreak, solitude, and the painful experience of witnessing your ex-partners move on via social media.  The same year, she released a self-titled EP which brought her career to new heights. The tracks on the EP are both captivating and poignant, striking a chord with a diverse range of listeners. “Don’t Watch Me Cry” is one of Alex’s top tracks, amassing over 36,000,000 streams on Spotify alone.

2023 is set to be a exciting year for Alex given her release of single “HATELOVE”. This song’s infectious hook, relatable lyrics and emotive vocal performance landed Alex on Spotify’s NMF and on the cover of “It’s A Bop!” playlist. We’re excited to see what Alex has in store for the rest of the year.
