Artist Spotlight: 070 Shake
Jersey native 070 Shake has emerged as one of the most distinctive voices in the modern music scene. Genre bending, emotive, and nocturnal characterize the songs that have captivated her massive and dedicated audience.
In 2016, 070 Shake gained hundreds of thousands of streams on SoundCloud and caught the attention of YesJulz, who became her manager after hearing her song "Proud." Shake adopted her stage name from her association with the 070 music collective, which is named after the 070 ZIP Codes of New Jersey. In 2016, she broke through with the release of "Trust Nobody," and later collaborated with fellow 070 members on the single "Honey," which received great reviews from fans and critics alike. Following the success of “Trust Nobody” and “Honey”, Shake signed with GOOD Music label, went on tour with The 1975 and released The 070 Project: Chapter 1 mixtape.
In March 2018, Shake released their solo debut EP Glitter. She describes the inspiration behind Glitter as "about being in a dark place and finding yourself and figuring it out. It's about being in the lowest of lows type of shit." The release of Glitter in combination with her collaborations with prolific artists Pusha T and Kanye West brought her artist career to new heights. Shake's distinctive vocals appear on three tracks, namely "Santeria" from Pusha T's album Daytona, and "Ghost Town" and "Violent Crimes" from Kanye West's album Ye.
Across her solo career, Shake has fearlessly explored the vulnerability and the themes of entanglement and infidelity in the moving songs she creates. This is seen in her albums “Modus Vivendi” and “You Can’t Kill Me” which carry Shake’s raw emotional expression and soulful vocals over intricate production.
070 Shake's commitment to her artistry, unique vocals, and innovative production style marked her as one of the most exciting artists in the industry.
